Case Studies:
AGIL-DOMINAR (Brazil)
In January 2001, the Brazilian government created a new agency responsible for identifying which animals are from which FMD region. Called SISBOV (Brazilian System of Identification and Certification of Origin for Bovine and Buffalo), the new agency has the responsibility to develop a “set of procedures used to characterize bovines, buffalos and farms aiming at origin certification, internal/external transit control, health programs and productive systems.”
SISBOV has not mandated a single national system with a single national operator. Rather, the government has created a set of basic requirements for certification and has setup a government procedure for independent companies to become certified to collect these data. There are currently about fifteen “certification units” which have been authorized by the government to collect data, and to pass the required data to the SISBOV database. One of these certified systems in Brazil is powered by AgInfoLink technology solutions.
SISBOV requires twenty-two pieces of information for each animal, but the AgInfoLink solution allows AGIL-DOMINAR to collect the required events plus additional information providing their customers with governmental compliance and managerial record keeping for the animal owner.
The DOMINAR solution was developed through a series of customer working sessions were accurate customer specifications were understood then developed and delivered.
